The Lady Saints advanced into the quarterfinals of the Region VI Tournament with an 81-48 victory over Allen County on Wednesday night at the Green House. It was the 16th straight victory for the Lady Saints in a First-Round Region VI Playoff game. Seward County has now won 11 of its last 12 games overall, and SCCC finished off a perfect 9-0 record while playing at home during the 2008 portion of their schedule this season. Sophomore Tegan Cunningham played her final game at the Green House on Wednesday night. In 30 career games at the Green House, the All-American averaged 18.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Cunningham is closing in on another SCCC all-time record as she needs just 15 rebounds to become the Seward County career rebounding leader.

The last meeting between these two programs came in 2005 during Toby Wynn’s first season when No. 8-ranked Seward County defeated No. 6 ranked Cowley, 77-59, at the Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville. They also faced each other with both teams carrying a national ranking in 2005 when No. 5 Seward County traveled to Arkansas City and knocked off No. 13 Cowley, 61-34, in a non-conference contest on Nov. 22, 2004. The victory in Arkansas City marked career victory No. 600 for legendary Lady Saint head coach Jim Littell.

Cowley, like Seward, enters the post-season red-hot. After defeating Garden City in the Region VI First Round, the Lady Tigers have won 10 of their last 12 games overall. Cowley started the regular season with a 3-6 overall record, but has since defeated quality opponents like Coffeyville C.C. (48-47), Labette C.C. (64-53) and Independence C.C. (57-45). Cowley finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the Region VI in scoring defense, allowing opponents a miniscule 50.9 points per game. During their current six-game winning streak, Cowley is allowing only 45.3 ppg., with no opponent scoring more than 53 points. One primary area of concern for Cowley is its outside shooting with only 68 total 3-pointers made this season. SCCC sophomore Audra Binford has connected 65 3-pointers this season.
