Sophomore Tomas Cruz pitched a seven-inning complete-game shutout in the Seward County Community College baseball teamís 2-0 victory in game-one against Texarkana College on Saturday afternoon in Dallas, Texas. The Bulldogs picked up the doubleheader split with a 12-8 victory in the nightcap of the neutral field non-conference doubleheader. The Saints will conclude their four-game series with the Bulldogs in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 2, at noon. Seward County is now 4-6 overall this season and Texarkana is now 8-5 overall.

Cruz has now recorded three of the Saintsí four wins on the mound this season while pitching a one-hit complete-game gem against Texarkana, who is a traditional JUCO powerhouse program. The right-hander from Amarillo, Texas, carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before a slowly-hit single just made it out of the infield to end the potential no-hitter. Cruz now has 17 strikeouts with just one walk this season while posting a sparkling 0.47 earned run average.

Seward County recorded all of its runs in the fifth inning, when Trent Martinez doubled to start the rally, and later scored on a RBI double by freshman Jon Bartlotti. The Saints scored their second run of the inning when Bartlotti scored on a RBI single to center field from freshman outfielder Caleb Nine.

The Saints and Bulldogs competed in a slugfest in game-two where each team collected 11 base hits. The Saints tried to rally with six runs in the sixth frame, but it wouldnít be enough as the Bulldogs went through four Saintsí pitchers en route to the victory.

Bartlotti hit a two-run home run to left field, and freshman outfielder Wade English picked up his first collegiate base hit with a deep solo home run to left field for the Saints. Martinez led all SCCC players at the plate going 3-for-5 with a double and two triples.

Seward County pitchers Christian Kowalchuk (three innings), Tyler Binkley (two innings), and Rafe Alvarez (two innings) allowed four earned runs each in game-two. Saintsí freshman right-handed pitcher Mario Bosquez made a one-inning relief appearance where he posted one strikeout.
