Individuals who will be first- or second-year students at Seward County Community College this fall can take advantage of a new federal grant.

The Academic Competitiveness Grant offers $750 for a student who has attempted between 0-24 hours and $1,300 for a student who has attempted between 25 and 48 hours.

To be eligible to apply for this grant, students must 1. be United States citizens, 2. be federal pell-grant recipients through the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), 3. have completed a rigorous secondary school program, 4. have graduated from high school after Jan. 1, 2005, and 5. have a 3.0 grade point average if they are a second year college student.

If a student meets the eligibility requirements for this new ACG grant and already has a processed FAFSA, he or she must go back to the form and make corrections to the form by selecting the ACG option. If a student has not yet filled out the FAFSA, he or she can check the ACG option as they fill out the form.

For additional information about this new federal grant, contact the SCCC director of financial aid, 629-2618 or rthexton@sccc.edu.
