Seward County Community College sophomore softball player Jennifer Collins has been named a Third Team NJCAA Pre-Season All-American. The NJCAA announced its pre-season softball All-Americans on Monday afternoon and Collins, a 5-foot-8 first baseman, was among the 36 players listed. Collins and the Lady Saints softball team will open the 2008 season next Wednesday, Feb. 20, with a home non-conference doubleheader against Lamar C.C. at Lady Saints Softball Field starting at 1 p.m.

Collins finished her freshman season batting .419 with 70 base hits, 47 runs scored, 15 doubles, seven home runs, 48 RBI, and 21 walks with only 14 strikeouts. Collins is among the top returning players in the Region VI this season and was one of four Jayhawk West players named Pre-Season All-American, joining Garden Cityís Becky Diehl (OF, First Team), and Butlerís Lauren Supak (RHP, Third Team) and Andrea Weiss (INF, Third Team).

The Coquitlam, British Columbia native was a Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Second Team All-West Region selection as a freshman. Also in 2007, Collins was tabbed First Team NJCAA D-I All-Region VI and Second Team Jayhawk West All-Conference.
