With :00.7 remaining against No. 3 Barton County Community College, sophomore All-American Tegan Cunningham made two free throws to give the Lady Saints a 68-67 victory over the Lady Cougars at the Green House last Saturday night. Cunningham scored 23 of her 27 points in the second half, and she moved into 27th place all-time in Region VI history for career points scored (1,054). Sophomore Jennifer Noel posted a career-high 14 rebounds, freshman Amanda Pierson tallied a career-high five blocks and freshman point guard Stephani Rhoten recorded 11 points, eight assists, a career-high six rebounds, and just one turnover while playing in all 40 minutes.

Since 2000-2001, the Lady Saints have a commanding 15-0 lead in the overall series against the Lady Grizzlies. The Lady Saints hold a 7-0 lead at the Power Plant, a 7-0 lead at the Green House and a 1-0 record on a neutral court. Last season Seward County defeated Butler three times, including an 84-55 victory at the Power Plant, a 78-68 win in the Green House and a 74-60 victory in the quarterfinals at the Region VI Tournament at Charles Koch Arena.

Butler (5-12, 0-4) is now under the direction of head coach Terrance Micheaux, who was an assistant coach at Butler the past two seasons. Butler has posted five victories this season, which includes three wins against four-year junior varsity programs, and two wins in non-conference play against Neosho County C.C. Butler relies heavily on returning All-Conference performer, Lekeisha Levi, who is the team leader in scoring (18.4 ppg.) and rebounding (9.9 rpg.). Butler is 0-4 in Jayhawk West play with losses at home against Garden City C.C. (69-71), and Hutchinson C.C. (59-76), and defeats on the road at Cloud County C.C. (56-77) and Colby C.C. (48-65). Butler does have size underneath with Levi, Tiffany Stokes, and Brittany Fernandez, who combine for 37 percent of the teamís rebounding.
