The Seward County Community College menís basketball team shutdown Kansas City Kansas Community College in the second half while winning their seventh straight game on Saturday morning, 65-42, in Nellis Hall on the final day of the Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville, Kan. The Saints, who have held three teams to fewer than 43 points, outscored KCK 34-15 in the second half while cruising to their 11th victory this season. The Saints led the final 31 minutes of the game and were led by their frontcourt which scored 34 points. Seward County improves to 11-1 overall this season, and KCK drops its second straight game and is now 7-3 overall.

In the first half, Saintsí sophomore Ervin Williams scored 10 points, including eight of the Saints first 11. Seward County led during the majority of the half with their largest first half lead (29-21) coming with 1:37 before halftime. SCCC post Darko Cohadarevic tallied seven first half points with five rebounds. Blue Devil sophomore guard Boo Miller added a team-high 14 points in the opening period.

The Saints went into halftime with a 31-27 lead, behind a 20-12 rebounding advantage and a 45 percent (13-for-29) shooting effort from the field.

Seward County took over in the second half going a 23-3 run in the opening 11 minutes of play. After KCK made an early field goal, the Saints scored nine points on 3-point field goals, six points on jump shots and collected eight points in the paint to lead 54-32 with 8:55 left in the game. The Saints led by as many as 28 points (63-35) with just 2:30 left in the game.

Williams recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Cohadarevic posted his third career double-double, and first of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Cohadarevic also led the team with two blocked shots. SCCC sophomore Nick Burns scored 12 points, and is now shooting 49 percent (23-for-47) from three-point range this season.

The Saints held the Blue Devils to just 15 percent shooting in the second half, while KCK made only four field goals. The Saints out-rebounded their eighth opponent of the season by a 10 board margin (45-35).

The Saints will return to the Green House in Liberal next weekend hosting the Pizza Hut Classic on Dec. 7-8. Seward County will play Brown Mackie College on Friday and Lamar Community College on Saturday night, with both games starting at 8 p.m.
