The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and NJCAA officials have announced the Division I All-Region VI volleyball team. Seward County Community College was represented with three players being named to the All-Region VI first and second team. Freshmen outside hitters Dan Yang and Jelena Simic were both named First Team All-Region VI and sophomore setter Alex Droogsma is a two-time selection on the Second Team. Seward County, Hutchinson C.C. and Barton County C.C. dominated the All-Region VI selections with 12 of the 14 selections coming from within their programs. The Lady Saints’ program has now had 33 All-Region VI selections since 1987, including 19 First Team picks.

Yang, a 6-foot-2-inch freshman from Beijing, China, entered eight all-time SCCC record books during her freshman campaign. She broke Seward County records for kills in a single-match (36, twice), career and single-season kills per game (5.85) and single-season kills (860).

Yang was also named Jayhawk West Conference Player of the Year and Conference Freshman of the Year following a season where she posted 20 matches with at least 20 kills, including four matches with at least 30. She is second in the NJCAA in both total kills and kills per game and earlier this season she was named the NJCAA Player of the Week.

She finished the season with 10 consecutive double/doubles and led the team with 25 during her freshman season. Simic was twice named the NJCAA D-I Region VI Player of the Week. Simic tied Yang’s record of 36 kills in a single-match against Lake Land College, where she also collected a career-high 24 digs.

Droogsma finished her career as the all-time Seward County leader in career assists (2,840), and she ranks in a total of five all-time statistical top 10 record books.
