The Seward County Community College menís tennis team saw four singles players and two doubles teams tie for a bracket championship last weekend at the Barton County Community College Tournament in Great Bend, Kan. Seward County sophomore Luis Cabizuca and freshman Ivan Michelli tied for a championship and sophomore Charlie Salter and freshman Shawn Hodge also claimed titles in singles competition. The doubles team of Victor Mesquita and Michelli tied for a doubles title with Saintsí doubles pair Rogerio Yamamoto and Cabizuca. Overall Seward County went 28-5 at the two day tournament. SCCC improves their overall fall record to 77-47 as a team.

Hodgeís route to the championship went through Hutchinson Community College (6-0, 6-0) and Bethany College (6-3, 6-4). His final match went three sets against another Bethany opponent (4-6, 7-5, 10-6) as the freshman improved his singles record to a team-best 8-1 this fall season.

Salter was also consistent defeating two Bethany players and one opponent from Barton County. Salter is now 7-4 this season. Cabizuca needed only six sets to complete his 3-0 record last weekend with victories over Bethany (6-2, 6-0), Newman University (6-3, 6-2) and another Bethany opponent (6-4, 7-6).

Michelli picked up two wins and one default in his march to the shared title. He defeated Newman University 6-3, 6-2, and claimed his second victory against Bethany College 6-1, 6-4.

Sophomore Mirko Perkusich collected three wins, including two against Bethany and one victory against Friends University (6-2, 6-1). He was runner-up in his bracket with a match loss against Barton County (2-6, 2-6).

Yamamoto and Cabizuca defeated Bethany College 8-3, and Barton County in an intense 9-8 battle. Mesquita and Michelli picked up wins against Hutchinson (8-3) and Bethany (8-6).

Seward County will finish their fall schedule with back-to-back home matches starting on Thursday, Oct. 11 hosting Hutchinson Community College. The Saints are scheduled to conclude their fall season on Saturday, Oct. 13 hosting the Barton County Cougars.
