The Seward County Community College volleyball team capped off a three day Wyo-Braska Shootout weekend with a victory against Sheridan Community College 30-14, 30-32, 30-27, 30-19, Saturday afternoon in Torrington, Wyo., on the campus of Eastern Wyoming College. Freshmen standouts Dan Yang and Jelena Simic led SCCC to the victory each recording 30 kills. The No. 14 ranked Lady Saints have now won 13 of their last 15 matches and improved to 8-2 against opponents on a neutral court. The Lady Saints are now 18-5 overall this season.

SCCC dominated game one winning 30-14, but then were defeated by Sheridan 32-30, in a back and forth second game.

The Lady Saints escaped game three with a 30-27 victory and then finished the match with a 30-19 advantage in game four.

Simic posted her fourth double-double at the Wyo-Braska Shootout with 30 kills and 19 digs. It was a career-best in kills for Simic, and the 11th time this season she has posted at least 15 kills in a single-match.

Yang, who currently ranks second in the NJCAA in total kills (432), posted her 11th match this season with 20 or more kills.

Sophomore setter Alex Droogsma chipped in a season-high 35 assists, eight digs and four kills, giving her 2,260 assists for her career. Droogsma needs only 145 assists to become the SCCC all-time career leader. In addition, sophomore Katy Troutman led all players with 18 digs and five aces.

The Lady Saints will travel back home to play a Jayhawk West Conference match against Garden City Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. SCCC concludes their 12 match road trip where they registered a 10-2 record.
