The Seward County Community College menís tennis team continued their fall season last week playing on Friday at the Bethany College Tournament in Lindsborg, Kan. The Saints played only one day of competition after play was cancelled on Saturday due to inclement weather. Seward County competed against four-year and junior college competition in the top two flights, while posting an 18-9 overall record in singles and doubles competition. The Saints had four singles players and one doubles team record perfect records on Friday afternoon. Seward County is now 41-22 overall, which including all singles and doubles competition this fall season.

Freshman Mauricio Ouriques improved his fall record to 6-0 with two victories against William Jewell College (6-4, 6-2) and Barton County Community College (6-2, 6-2). Sophomore Rogerio Yamamoto went 2-0 with convincing victories against Bethel College (6-0, 6-1) and Bethany College (6-1, 6-1).

Freshman Shawn Hodge posted back-to-back wins against Kansas Wesleyan University (6-0, 6-0) and Kansas Newman University (7-6, 6-2). Hodge is now 5-1 this fall. Sophomore Charlie Salter improved to 4-2 this season with two victories against Bethel College (6-0, 6-1) and Bethany College (6-4, 6-1).

Salter stayed perfect on Friday with two straight doubles victories with partner Roberto Gomez against Barton County C.C. (8-1) and William Jewell College (8-2).

In addition, former Saints tennis player Adam Hambleton competed for Bethany College last weekend and earned a win against SCCC freshman Ivan Michelli (7-5, 7-6). Hambleton played for the Saints from 2005-2007.

This weekend the Saints will compete in the International Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship at Overland Park, Kan. Competition will begin on Friday, Sept. 21 and will continue into Sunday, Sept. 23.
