The National Junior College Athletic Association has named Seward County Community College freshman Dan Yang as the NJCAA D-I Volleyball Player of the Week, for the week ending Sept. 8. Yang, an outside hitter from Beijing, China, led Seward County to three victories last week with 72 kills, 17 digs, nine blocks, seven service aces and a .454 hitting percentage. Yang becomes the fourth player in the history of the SCCC volleyball program to be named NJCAA Player of the Week.

Yang recorded back-to-back 20 kill matches to start the week with 27 kills against Cloud County C.C. (Sept. 5) and 20 kills in a victory against Otero J.C. (Sept. 8). She posted 14 kills and a .371 hitting percentage against North Platte C.C. and she finished the Colby Tournament with 11 kills, a .556 hitting percentage and four service aces against host school Colby.

Earlier on Wednesday, Yang was recognized as the Division I Region VI Player of the Week. Yang also received Region VI Player of the Week the first week of the regular season.

Yang is currently ranked nationally in three statistical top 25 categories including second in kills per game (5.68), sixth in total kills (182) and 17th in aces per game (1.0).

Other SCCC players to be named NJCAA Player of the Week are Janete Ferreira (2005), Kelli Kirkwood (2005) and Luana Cavalcanti (2004).
