Seward County Community College men’s basketball coach Bryan Zollinger has completed his first recruiting class as head coach of the Saints program. Zollinger recently announced the signings of Thiago Oliveira (6-5, forward) and Bruno Mendes (6-3, guard), both incoming freshmen student-athletes from Brazil. The Saints will enter the season with a roster that includes four post-players and eight perimeter players. The Saints are welcoming back five sophomores from the 2006-2007 team that finished with a 17-14 overall record. Last season SCCC ended their campaign with an appearance in the NJCAA Region VI Tournament quarterfinals.

Thiago Oliveira (Preve Objetivo H.S., Bauru, Brazil) 6-foot-5-inch - Forward
The signing of Oliveira should help fill the hole at the wing position left by departing sophomore Theron Wilson, who led the NJCAA Region VI in scoring (19.4 ppg.) and rebounding (10.8 rpg.) last season. Oliveira scored a career-high 32 points last season for his team in Bauru.

Zollinger on Oliveira: “Thiago is a big physical kid. He is very strong and aggressive on the defensive end. He has good overall offensive skills and he is a very experienced player.”

Bruno Mendes (In Sight H.S., Sao Carlos, Brazil) 6-foot-3-inch – Guard
Mendes adds to the depth for the Saints at the guard position. During his final high school season, Mendes averaged 16 points, eight assists, five rebounds and one steal per game.

Zollinger on Mendes: “Bruno is a big strong guard. He can play the one, two or three position. He is very skilled, has a very high basketball I.Q. and he is one of the better players in Brazil for his age group.”
