Seward County Community College women’s basketball head coach Toby Wynn has announced the signing of Karolina Zajac, a 5-foot-10-inch point guard from Krakow, Poland. Zajac is the final signee that will join the 2007-2008 Lady Saints basketball recruiting class. Wynn and assistant coach Kim Ortega-Davis have signed a total of nine incoming student-athletes for the upcoming season. The Lady Saints return five sophomores from last season’s team that won the Jayhawk West Conference, NJCAA Region 6 Tournament and placed third at the NJCAA National Tournament with a 36-2 overall record.

Wynn feels this year’s recruiting class will bring skill and athleticism into the Lady Saints’ program and also will compliment the returning players from last season.

“We feel like the 2007-2008 recruiting class has given us a very solid foundation for the next two years here at Seward County,” said Wynn. “Each one of these girls are not only good basketball players, but also great people. The nine players that we have signed will also be a very good compliment to the group of ladies that we have coming back from last season. In this class we have addressed our needs at every position and have provided depth at several of those positions.”

Seward County signed six players in the early signing period and later added two recruits before the signing of Zajac. Wynn and Ortega-Davis targeted players in the state of Kansas, Texas and two players from Poland that they feel will add to the success of the storied women’s basketball program at SCCC.

“Coach Ortega-Davis deserves a tremendous amount of credit for all the hard work that she put in during this past year recruiting these players to Seward County,” said Wynn. “We are extremely excited about this group of young ladies and believe that they will help protect and carry on the great tradition of women’s basketball that has been established here at Seward County.”

Karolina Zajac (Liceum Ogolnokszt H.S., Krakow, Poland) 5-foot-10-inch – Point Guard
Zajac will be one of several newcomers who will challenge for the opening at the starting point guard position. Zajac will join a familiar face at SCCC as post player Katarzyna Gawor, also of Krakow, Poland, will also join the Lady Saints as a freshman this coming year.

Coach Wynn on Zajac: “Karolina is the final piece to our recruiting class and we are very excited to have her become a Lady Saint. Karolina is a very skilled point guard that has great ball skills, shoot the ball, and can also play the off guard position. She has very good athleticism and a good understanding of how to play the game. Karolina will definitely help give us more depth in the backcourt and is a great addition to our basketball team.”
