Seward County Community College athletic director Galen McSpadden has announced that a dance program will begin at the college in 2007-08. The “Saintsations” will be under the guidance of current cheerleading head coach, Scarlette Frydendall, who will be assisted by volunteer coach Nikki Frydendall. The dance team will be comprised of 10 female student-athletes that will audition for a selected panel prior to the fall 2007 semester. Scholarships will be available for dance team members. The Saintsations will perform at numerous Saints basketball halftimes and also at area schools events.

The Seward County cheerleaders and dance team will both remain as activities at SCCC, but will look to compete in several events throughout the year. Possible sanctioned competitions may include the cheerleaders competing at the National Cheerleader’s Association and the dance team competing with the National Dancers Alliance.

The dance team, like the cheerleaders, will perform at basketball halftimes and other events throughout the year. There might also be cheerleaders who are qualified and will consider performing for both programs.

Coach Scarlette Frydendall says she is looking for student-athletes who have a passion for dance, not necessarily years of experience.

“I am looking for many things,” said Frydendall. “First of all, I want the kids to know that you don’t have to have years of dance training to tryout. I’m convinced that with the right attitude and a desire to learn, you can accomplish almost anything. I welcome both trained dancers, as well as more street-hip hop dancers. We are going to combine all of these styles with the dance program this year. As long as they are open-minded, I have a feeling we will create a lot of routines that will get our fans excited.”
