Seward County Community College freshman softball player Jena Rue has been named a National Junior College Athletic Association Third Team All-American infielder. Rue becomes the first player in the nine year history of the Seward County softball program to be named an All-American. Rue, the Jayhawk West Conference Freshman of the Year, broke SCCC records for base hits (86) and doubles (24) in a single-season while also leading the team in batting average (.430) and extra-base hits (35). Rue was one of three Region VI players who earned All-American honors as Becky Diehl (outfield, Garden City) was a second team selection and Sadie Ball (catcher/outfield, Butler) was named to the third team.

Recently, Rue was named a Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-West Region selection. She was also named First Team Jayhawk West All-Conference and First Team All-Region VI.

Rue’s sensational freshman season ranks her statistically in eight single-season record books and six career record books in Seward County softball history.

Rue led the team with 24 multi-hit games including eight games with three base hits and two games where she went 4-for-4 at the plate. She collected at least one hit in 51-of-58 games played. Her longest hitting streak of the season was 15 games (Mar. 27-Apr. 19), but she also posted hitting streaks of 14 games and eight games.
