Seward County Community College head coach Galen McSpadden has been named an assistant coach for the NJCAA Freshman Baseball All-Star series this summer at USA Baseball stadium in Millington, Tenn., from June 13-17. McSpadden will be the pitching coach for the West team and will work with New Mexico Junior College head coach Ray Birmingham, who is the head coach for the West Team. The Freshman All-Star series will provide exposure to players who have just completed their freshman year at NJCAA junior colleges to four-year schools and professional scouts.

The All-Star series will begin with players and coaches arriving in Millington on June 13th, for two days of practice and a day for college and professional scouts to evaluate players in a workout environment. Actual games will begin on June 15 (one game) and June 16 (doubleheader).

Players named to the East and West All-Star teams will be nominated by their head coaches. Each team will consist of 20-22 players who will be selected by the head coaches for each team (East- Tom Arrington of San Jacinto College; West- Ray Birmingham of New Mexico Junior College). The “West” team will consist of players from NJCAA member schools in Regions 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18 and 24. The “East” team will be selected from schools in Regions 3, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23.
