The Seward County Community College womenís tennis team will make their second straight appearance at the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Tournament next weekend in Tucson, Ariz. The No. 13 nationally-ranked Lady Saints finished second at the Regional Tournament last weekend in Wichita, with a total of six runner-up finishes and one third-place finish. Cowley College won the Regional Tournament and was followed by Seward County and Johnson County Community College. Last season, Seward County finished in third-place at the Regional Tourney and was 10th place at the NJCAA National Tournament.

In Regional Tournament competition, Seward County sophomore Amina Abdullah finished runner-up at No. 1 singles and her twin sister, Uthala Abdullah, also received a runner-up finish at No. 2 singles. Sophomore, and Liberal High School graduate, Hanna Hepp recorded her second straight year finishing in third-place in singles play (No. 3).

The Lady Saints had two freshmen singles players who were runner-up. Erica Herrera (No. 4 singles) and Sanela Dejanovic (No. 5) each finished in second-place in singles competition.

The two doubles teams for Seward County each were runner-up with the Abdullah sisters competing at No. 1 doubles and Herrera and Hepp finishing in second-place at No. 2 doubles.

Seward Countyís top three singles players all have experience playing at the National Tournament, with all three players competing in 2006. Last year, Uthala Abdullah finished in the Round of 8 in No. 3 singles and Hepp also ended her season in the Round of 8 at No. 6 singles. The Abdullah sisters had the teams best doubles record at nationals, finishing in the Round of 8 at No. 2 doubles.

Seward County will travel to their second consecutive National Tournament next weekend, May 5-11, at Tucson.
