Seward County Community College sophomore volleyball player, Juliana Nascimento, signed a national letter of intent on Monday afternoon with NCAA Division II Lock Haven University (Lock Haven, Pa.). The six-foot right side hitter from Guarulhos, Brazil, held a press conference in the SCCC All-American room located on the campus of SCCC to announce her decision. Nascimento signed with the Lady Eagles for 2007, where she will be competing in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Nascimento was a two-year starting left-side hitter for the Lady Saints in 2005-2006. She collected 752 kills, 440 digs and 179 blocks in her career. She was a two-time All-Region VI selection, and in 2006 she was named a Second Team Jayhawk West All-Conference selection.

She will join a Lock Haven volleyball program that has been a national contender at the NCAA Division II level for the last 15 years. This past season, Lock Haven was PSAC Western Division champions with a 9-1 conference record and a 32-6 overall mark. For the second straight season the Lady Eagles advanced to the ‘Elite Eight’ at the NCAA National Tournament. In the final NCAA D-II AVCA Coaches Poll, Lock Haven was ranked No. 21 in the nation, and in 2005 the Lady Eagles finished their season ranked No. 13 in the country.

Nascimento is the third player that SCCC head coach Bert Luallen has coached in his two years with the Lady Saints program that has signed with an NCAA Division I or II program.
