The National Junior College Athletic Association has named Seward County Community College sophomore, Sarah Venegas, the NJCAA Division I Softball Player of the Week, for the week ending April 14. Venegas led the No. 11 Lady Saints to a 4-0 week with a doubleheader sweep against Brown Mackie College (10-2 and 17-0) and a sweep at Barton County Community College (10-2 and 9-0). Venegas is the fourth Seward County player this season to be named either NJCAA Player or Pitcher of the Week. The Seward County softball program has now had seven players who have been tabbed a National Player of Pitcher of the Week.

Venegas, a 5-foot-4-inch designated player from Artesia, New Mexico, N.M., batted .583 going 7-for-12 last week, with six runs scored, three doubles, one walk and seven RBI. Earlier this week, Venegas broke the all-time Seward County record for RBI in a single-season with 70. Her 70 RBI in 46 games this season ranks her second in the nation, behind Tiffinee Harvey (Manatee C.C.), who has 72 RBI in 51 games played.

Venegas collected three multi-hit games last week with a 2-for-3 performance against Brown Mackie and a combined 4-for-6 in a doubleheader against Barton County. She collected two doubles and two RBI in game-two against Brown Mackie, and posted three RBI with a double in game-one against Barton County.

This season, Venegas is batting .413 (64-for-155) with 33 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 70 RBI, while hitting in the four-hole for the Lady Saints.
