For the second straight week, the National Junior College Athletic Association has named a Seward County Community College softball pitcher as the Division I National Pitcher of the Week. Lady Saints sophomore right-handed pitcher Dana McLaren has received the award a week after teammate, Stephanie McCarthy, was named NJCAA Pitcher of the Week. McLaren, a Frontenac, Kan., native led the Lady Saints to a 3-0 week, pitching in all three games and earning three wins in two starts and one relief appearance. McLaren tallied a 1.87 earned run average with seven strikeouts in 15 innings pitched last week.

McLaren started the week with a six-inning complete game against Neosho County Community College, where she allowed only three hits, one run and no walks with four strikeouts. McLaren then tossed nine innings against Garden City on April 3, after throwing a seven-inning compete game in game-one, she made a two-inning relief appearance where she allowed only one hit and struck out a batter.

McLaren is a two sport athlete at Seward County, playing for the Lady Saints volleyball program in the fall and now playing in her second year for the No. 14 nationally-ranked SCCC softball team. This season, McLaren is 17-3 with a 2.25 ERA and a team-high 65 strikeouts in 127.2 innings pitched.
