Seward County Community College men’s basketball coach Dave Brown has announced his resignation as head basketball coach. Brown recently completed his 15th season as a coach at SCCC, including the past 11 years as head coach of the Saints. Brown was hired in 1992-93 as an assistant coach to then head coach Dale Reed. After spending four years as the assistant coach for SCCC, Brown was named head coach in 1996-97. During his tenure at the helm of the Saints program, Brown became the all-time career wins leader and winning percentage leader in Saints men’s basketball history.

Brown completes his career at Seward County with an overall record of 253-103, and with a 110-66 record in Jayhawk West Conference competition. Under Brown’s tutelage, the Saints won two Jayhawk West Conference championships (2002, 1998) and finished conference runner-up five times. Brown guided the Saints to a third-place finish in the 1998 NJCAA National Tournament with an overall record of 35-3. The Saints 35 wins in 1998 set a school record and ranks third all-time in Region VI history for most wins in a single-season. Brown led the Saints to three Region VI Tournament quarterfinal appearances, two trips to the Region VI Final Four and two times playing in the Region VI Tournament championship game, including a Region VI Tournament championship in 1998.

Brown was named the Jayhawk West Conference Coach of the Year on three occasions (1998, 2002 and 2005) and was named Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1998. Brown’s career at Seward County places him sixth all-time in Region VI history in career wins (251) and 16th in career winning percentage (.711). In addition, Brown led the Saints to eight 20 plus win seasons in his 11 years as head coach.

Seward County Community College President Duane M. Dunn commented on Brown’s career at SCCC.

“Dave has had a significant impact on the lives of many young men who have attended Seward County Community College. His record speaks to his passion for the game of basketball and his desire to see his players excel. He has provided SCCC fans with exciting games, and has helped his players graduate and move on to play at the next level of collegiate basketball. I respect Dave’s decision to move on in his career to other venues and I recognize that there are times in anyone’s career when a change is worthwhile. The College wishes him well in his next endeavor.”

Friday morning Brown made the following statement regarding his resignation as head coach of the Seward County Community College men’s basketball team.

“I am resigning my position as head men’s basketball coach at Seward County Community College. I have had a great run at Seward. I have enjoyed my tenure here at Seward County Community College and it has been a great institution that I have been very proud to be part of.
