The Seward County Community College men’s basketball team lost against Garden City 103-92, at the Perryman Center in Garden City on Sunday evening. The Saints led 33-20 midway through the first-half, but it was Garden City who shot 16-of-24 from three-point range to outscore the Saints 61-44 in the second-half. Garden City sophomore Julian Allen was the star scoring a game-high 30 points to help the Broncbusters snap a three-game losing streak. The Saints drop their second consecutive conference game and fall to 15-12 overall and to 6-8 in the Jayhawk West Conference. Garden City remains in the upper half of the Western Division with a 9-6 conference mark and a 9-18 overall record.

Seward County set the pace in the first-half, and led 33-20 after the opening 10 minutes of regulation. After a Saints 10-0 run, Garden City answered back with an 11-2 run to close the first-half trailing the Saints 48-42 at halftime.

The Saints were the hot team in the first-half shooting 55 percent from the field (17-for-31) and shooting a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Garden City wouldn’t give in after trailing early, making 9-of-14 (64 percent) three-point field goals in the first-half.

Midway through the second-half the Saints would hold their last lead of the game 67-65, with 11:16 to play. Garden City’s outside shooting carried them from that point as they finished the game on a 37-25 run. The Broncbusters were paced by a 69 percent shooting effort from the field and a 70 percent shooting effort from 3-point range in the second-half. Garden City’s bench also was key for the Busters outscoring the Saints 32-14.

Allen finished the game shooting 11-of-15 from the field, 6-of-7 from 3-point range, with 30 points, five assists and four rebounds. Saints sophomore forward Theron Wilson had his top game in conference play with a team-high 27 points and nine rebounds.

Seward County also had a strong offensive game with all seven players who played scoring points, and five players scoring in double-figures.

Other leaders for the Saints were Michael Tyree (23 points, six steals and three assists), Nick Burns (12 points and five assists), Ervin Williams (11 points) and Hank Harris (10 points and four assists).

The Broncbusters had a strong team effort including impressive outings from Yima Chia-Kur (22 points), Sammie Fisher (22 points, 6-for-9 three-pointers) and Jeremy Baker (17 points and seven assists).

The Saints will finish their regular season conference schedule with back-to-back home games at the Green House. Seward County will host the Pratt Community College Beavers on Wednesday, Feb. 28, for a Jayhawk West Conference tip-off at 8 p.m.
