The Seward County Community College softball team opened their season on Friday at the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas. The Lady Saints started the season with two victories and one loss. Seward County defeated McLennan (TX) Community College in the first game 4-3, and picked up a 3-1 win over No. 10 Blinn (TX) College in the second game. In the final game on Friday, Seward County was defeated 3-2, by No. 27 Texarkana College.

In game-one, Seward County allowed three runs in the first inning against McLennan C.C. The Lady Saints battled back to tie the score 3-3, heading into the late innings. Seward County received a game winning hit from sophomore Sarah Venegas to drive in the game winning run to give the Lady Saints their first victory of the season.

Sophomore pitcher Dana McLaren made her Lady Saints pitching debut in game-two, where she allowed only one run in the Lady Saints victory over nationally-ranked Blinn College. Blinn completed their 2006 season winning their fourth consecutive conference championship, and made their second appearance at the NJCAA National Tournament in four years. The Lady Bucs finished with a 40-22 overall record last season.

In the final game on Friday, Seward County allowed two unearned runs and never received the big hit while picking up their first loss to No. 27 Texarkana College. Texarkana was the Region XIV Tournament runner-up last season.

The Cowtown Classic will resume with bracket competition on Saturday, Feb. 17. The Lady Saints (2-1) will play their first bracket game on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Match-ups for Saturday have not yet been announced.
