The Seward County Community College softball team received a No. 2 ranking in the Jayhawk West Conference pre-season softball poll. The 2007 Jayhawk East and West polls were released on Tuesday by Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference officials. Pre-season poll rankings were voted on by KJCCC head coaches. The Lady Saints are coming off a 37-22 overall record in 2006, where they tied for second-place in the Jayhawk West Conference and won their second consecutive NJCAA D-I Region VI Tournament championship.

Seward County is led by fifth season head coach Andrea Gustafson, who has recorded a career overall record of 139-97, and a 42-24 record in the Jayhawk West Conference. In the last two seasons, Gustafson has guided the softball program to their first-ever Jayhawk West Conference championship in 2005, and back-to-back Region VI Tournament titles in 2005 and 2006.

The Lady Saints return seven sophomores from their championship season a year ago, and have added 11 new players including one sophomore transfer, and one freshman who received a medical red-shirt in 2006.

The core of the Lady Saints line-up is back with returning All-Conference and All-Region VI players Meisha Patterson (.375 batting average, 63 hits, five triples, 18 stolen bases and 24 RBI), Sarah Venegas (.357 batting average, 14 doubles, three home runs and 35 RBI) and Haley Martin (.321 batting average, 50 hits, six stolen bases and 15 RBI).
