THE COACHES: Craig Fletchall coaches Barton County, and in his second season he is 33-13 overall. Dave Brown continues his 11th season as head coach at Seward County (246-95).
ABOUT THE COUGARS: The No. 12 Cougars are red-hot, they have an overall record of 15-1, and picked up a home-court victory on Wednesday night over defending co-Jayhawk West Conference champion Cloud County, 62-61, in overtime. Freshman Blaine Clark played only nine minutes against Cloud County, but hit the most important jump shot of the game with 13 seconds on the clock to give the Cougars the victory on Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Omar Johnson leads the Cougars and is third in the Region VI in scoring (19.2 ppg.) and assists (6.1 apg.). Johnson has scored 19 points and 24 points in consecutive conference games against Dodge City and Cloud County respectively. Barton is tough down-low with 6-foot-9-inch Thiago Cordeiro (9.8 ppg., 8.8 rpg. and 4.1 bpg.) and 6-foot-4-inch Ivan Evans (15.9 ppg. and 8.8 rpg.).
ABOUT THE SAINTS: The Saints were idle on Wednesday, after picking up their biggest win of the season against then No. 19-ranked Hutchinson, and snapping a three game losing streak. Freshman Darko Cohadarevic led the Saints with 25 points, seven rebounds and five 3-pointers. Sophomore Michael Tyree hit 3-of-8 from downtown, with 19 points and three assists. Sophomore Theron Wilson is leading the Region VI in scoring (24.2 ppg.) and rebounding (11.8 rpg.) despite scoring 10 points with six rebounds against Hutchinson. Coach Dale Reed will continue to guide Seward County the next two games, while head coach Dave Brown continues to serve his four-game suspension due to an institutional disciplinary decision.
