The No. 7 Seward County Community College women’s basketball team kept rolling during their non-conference schedule with a 91-59 victory over Hastings J.V., on Saturday night at the Pizza Hut Classic in Liberal. Seward County continues to receive strong play from their team with every player scoring and eight players posting at least seven points. The Lady Saints also notched another win onto their 41 game non-conference winning streak that began three seasons ago. Lady Saints second year coach Toby Wynn is now a perfect 26-0 at the helm of Seward County in non-conference competition. Seward County improves to 12-0 overall this season.

The Lady Saints tallied 22 field goals in the first-half shooting 51 percent from the field (22-for-43) and held Hastings J.V. to only 29 percent shooting. In the first period, SCCC led 18-14 at the 14:44 mark. SCCC then went on a 20-4 run, with scoring from seven different players in an eight minute frame. Lady Saint freshman Tegan Cunningham led Seward County at halftime with 13 points and nine rebounds. The Lady Saints led at halftime 51-25.

Seward County then opened the second period on an 18-6 run, to increase their lead to 38 points (69-31). Hastings J.V. did their best to keep up with Seward County, and was even able to put together a 21-8 run of their own in the second-half.

Seward County, who currently is ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA poll, continues to show why they are a national power year-in, and year out, the answer has proven to be consistency. The Lady Saints have accumulated 14 straight seasons winning over 25 games, with an average of 31 wins per season since 1992. While speaking of consistency, the Lady Saints home court record at the Green House improves to 209-3 (.986 winning percentage) since 1992.

Cunningham led the Lady Saints while posting her sixth double-double this season (17 points and 11 rebounds). Seward County’s balanced attack included Ilda Chambe (16 points and three rebounds), Chontaye Walter (14 points and three rebounds), Chelsea Blackshear 911 points and eight assists), Taushelle Rushing (eight points, five steals and three assists), Jennifer Noel (eight points and eight rebounds), Alyson Snell (seven points and three assists) and Audra Binford (seven points and two steals). Every Lady Saints player tallied at least 11 minutes played in Saturday night’s game.

Hastings J.V. was carried by Kim Faimon (24 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals) and Hannah Kucera (18 points and three rebounds).

Hastings J.V. is a program who a day earlier knocked off Jayhawk West foe, Dodge City C.C., and lost at No. 1 Cloud County C.C. by only three points (74-71) earlier this season.

Seward County will now look forward to their annual winter break trip, this year heading to Palm Springs, California. The Lady Saints will play two games in California this year on Dec. 29 against San Bernardino College at 2 p.m. (PT) and on Dec. 30 at 6 p.m. against Imperial Valley College.
