Seward County Community College sophomore volleyball player, Janete Ferreira, signed a National Collegiate Athletic Association letter of intent with Oral Roberts University. Ferreira and the Lady Saints volleyball program held a press conference on Wednesday in the SCCC All-American Room to announce where Ferreira would continue her collegiate volleyball career. Ferreira completed her playing career with the Lady Saints last weekend at the NJCAA Region VI Tournament. She finishes her career at Seward County as the all-time record holder for single-season kills with 667 this season.

Oral Roberts University is an NCAA Division I volleyball program that competes in the Mid Continent Conference. This season, Oral Roberts clinched the Mid-Continent regular season championship with an 11-1 record in league play. The Golden Eagles currently have a 24-8 overall record, including a perfect 12-0 record on their home court. In their last 24 matches during the regular season, ORU has posted a 22-2 record, including a 15 match winning streak where they tallied a 45-5 overall game-record.

Since the arrival of head coach, Sheera Sirola, the Golden Eagles are 86-48 (.642) since 2003. Sirola has led the Eagles to the top of the Mid Continent standings in her tenure racking up a conference record of 45-9. The Golden Eagles have posted a 38-8 record at home under the guidance of Sirola.

Ferreira broke the all-time single-season record for kills this year after only 39 matches played. She played in 163 games, recording a .258 hitting percentage. This season Ferreira totaled 667 kills, 1,759 total attempts, 46 aces, 354 digs and 74 blocks. Ferreira’s success on the volleyball court placed her in five single-season Top 10 record books at Seward County.
