The Seward County Community College volleyball team lost to Hutchinson Community College 30-14, 30-15 and 30-19 in the winnerís bracket final in the NJCAA Division I Region VI Tournament on Saturday night at the Hutchinson Salthawk Activities Center. Seward County (22-24) was defeated by a dominating Lady Blue Dragons team who cruised past Seward County in a three-game victory. Seward County hit -.008 as a team (26 kills-27 errors-129 attacks) and never held a lead in any game Saturday night. Hutchinson improves to 21-13 overall this season and advances into the Region VI Championship match Sunday, at 2:00 p.m. against the winner of Seward County and Colby.

The Lady Blue Dragons were paced by a stellar performance from the service line with six different players posting service aces, including four each from Sarah Claborn and Brandi Hood. Seward County was unable to stop the Lady Blue Dragon attack posting 12 service receiving errors in the three-game match.

Seward County was also hampered by six service errors and 27 attack errors. The Lady Saints errors awarded Hutchinson 47 of their 90 points in the match.

Seward was led offensively by Janete Ferreira (nine kills), Jennifer Noel (four kills), Jenny Schwier (four kills) and Juliana Nascimento (four kills). Setter, Alex Droogsma, collected 18 assists and six digs. Ferreira led all players with a game-high 15 digs.

Hutchinson received strong outings from Megan Koster (12 kills and eight digs), Sarah Claborn (15 assists and 12 digs), Brandi Hood (five kills, 14 digs and four blocks) and Ludimila Amaral (nine kills, seven digs and seven blocks).

The Lady Saints drop to 1-1 in the Region VI Tournament and will play Colby Community College in the loserís bracket final on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The winner of Seward County/Colby will advance to the Region VI Tournament Finals to face Hutchinson at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Blue Dragons are the only unbeaten team left in the tournament. Colby eliminated Cloud County 3-0, in the loserís bracket on Saturday afternoon. Hutchinson remains unbeaten against Region VI competition this season.
