The Seward County Community College volleyball team advanced in the Region VI Volleyball Tournament with a second round victory over Colby Community College, on Saturday at the Hutchinson Salthawk Activities Center. Seward County (22-23) topped Colby 31-29, 30-26, 21-30 and 30-23. In their only other meeting this season, Colby defeated Seward County in five games at the Green House early in conference competition.

Seward County took the advantage in the match with a 31-29 game-one win. The Lady Saints tallied 15 kills with a .333 hitting percentage, their highest hitting percentage in any game during the match.

The Lady Saints chipped in 17 kills in their game-two win, 30-26, taking control of the match. Seward County was led by sophomore outside hitter Janete Ferreira, who posted a team-high 23 kills and also totaled 13 digs to complete a double-double. Freshman setter Alex Droogsma recorded 43 assists, six digs and four kills. Seward Countyís defense was anchored by freshmen, Katy Troutman (team-high 24 digs) and Jennifer Noel (team-high seven blocks)

Colby was led offensively by Cynthia Danthon (20 kills and 11 digs), while NJCAA kills leader, Ana Kokanovic, was held to 19 kills (.286 hitting percentage). Kokanovic was named Jayhawk West and Region VI Player of the Year this season.

Seward County advances in the winnerís bracket final to play No. 1 seed Hutchinson (20-13) at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night. Hutchinson swept No. 4 seed Cloud County this morning 3-0. The Lady Blue Dragons enter the Region VI Tournament as back-to-back Jayhawk West Conference and NJCAA Region VI Tournament champions.
