For the sixth consecutive year, the Seward County Community College women’s tennis team has received a Top 20 International Tennis Association/National Junior College Athletic Association Pre-Season ranking. The Lady Saints enter the 2007 tennis season as the No. 13 team in the nation. Seward County is coming off a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament in 2006, where they finished in 10th place among the competition. This season, the Lady Saints return three sophomores who were all listed as nationally-ranked singles players in the pre-season poll.

The top four teams in the pre-season poll were all ranked in the top four in the final poll last spring. The Top 4 teams are Hillsbourgh C.C. (No. 1), Lee College (No. 2), Broward C.C. (No. 3) and Tyler J.C. (No. 4). The Lady Saints are the second highest ranked team among Region VI schools, with Cowley College (No. 5) and Johnson County C.C. (No. 15) also ranking in the Top 20.

Seward County has five singles players ranked nationally, with the Lady Saints top singles player, Amina Abdullah, receiving the highest ranking at No. 26 in the nation. Abdullah is coming off a third place finish at the regional tournament last year and this fall she posted a 7-6 overall match record.

Uthala Abdullah is the second highest ranked Seward County singles player at No. 32. Uthala registered a 12-2 match record last year, where she was a regional champion at No. 3 singles. The Abdullah twin sisters also received a national doubles ranking at No. 23 in the nation.
