Nohemy Leyva, a Seward County Community College/Area Technical School student, prepares several foods for chemical analysis. SCCC/ATS introduced its first class this spring as part of the new Food Science and Safety program. Introduction to Food Science and Safety is a part of the program that will begin in the fall. The college is waiting for formal approval from the Kansas Board of Regents.Food Science & Safety prepares students for a wide range of careers in food quality control, processing, product development, safety, microbiology  or sanitation. Students will use biology and chemistry to study food properties, food spoilage and food processing. The college is celebrating February as Career and Technical Education Month.
