Two students in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School received the Excellence Work Ready Electrical Certification. Larry McLemore, division chair of the Industrial Technology, presented the award to Dustin Fisher of Satanta and Luis F. Perez of Ulysses. To achieve the award, students must pass the work- ready electrical exam that covers components, meter usage, safety, theory, troubleshooting, fundamentals of motors and capacitors, and interpreting electrical diagrams.
This academic year, the SCCC/ATS HVAC program has also achieved recognition from two, third-party accreditation bodies, including the National Center for Construction Education and Research, (NCCER) and the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board. NCCER is now recognizing the HVAC program as an (AETF) Accredited Education and Training Facility. And the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board is recognizing the program as an approved curriculum for Oklahoma Apprenticeship time.
SCCC/ATS is also now offering testing for (NATE) North American Technician Excellence and (ICE) HVAC Industry Competency exams. Both types of tests provide employers and customers with the assurance that HVAC apprentices and seasoned technicians are knowledgeable and up to date with the trade.
