The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) had their annual basketball coaches’ pre-season press conference Monday morning in Wichita, Kan., at the Best Western Airport Inn. The Jayhawk West pre-season poll that was released by conference officials had Seward County Community College ranked No. 2 by conference head coaches behind Cloud County Community College, who was picked to win the conference in 2006-2007. The Lady Saints are coming off a 25-7 overall record in 2005-2006, and a 10-6 Jayhawk West Conference record finishing in fourth-place in the conference last season.

Seward County also received votes in the NJCAA Pre-Season Top 30 Poll that was also released on Monday. The Lady Saints welcome back five sophomores who played on last years team, including two returning starters in Taushelle Rushing (Wynnewood, Okla.) and Ilda Chambe (Maputo, Mozambique).

The Lady Saints basketball program has been among the elite women’s basketball programs over the past decade, winning the Jayhawk West Conference seven times and being crowned NJCAA Region VI Tournament champions four times, with an NJCAA National Championship in 2002. Since the 1996-1997 season, the Lady Saints program has an overall record of 321-30 (.915 winning percentage).
