The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced their 2006 Pre-Season Top 20 poll. Seward County Community College received a No. 15 ranking in the first poll of the 2006 season. The Lady Saints have now been ranked in the NJCAA Top 20 poll for the last 12 years. The SCCC volleyball programs first ranking came in 1995, under then head coach Dave Wilbers. This season the Seward County Lady Saints have started the season with a 2-2 overall record. SCCC defeated Cisco J.C. and Garden City C.C. last weekend in the SCCC Kick-Off Classic in Liberal.

The No. 1 spot in this year’s poll went to Miami-Dade College (33-3 in 2005) who finished runner-up at the NJCAA National Tournament last year. Hutchinson Community College (35-11 in 2005) received a No. 2 national ranking after winning the Jayhawk West and Region VI Tournament the last two seasons. Missouri State University-West Plains (40-9 in 2005) took in the No. 3 position in the pre-season poll after finishing third at the National Tournament last season.

The Lady Saints will have a chance to prove themselves against the nations finest this season with nine-of-the-Top 20 programs on their regular season schedule. Lady Saints opponents ranking in the pre-season Top 20 poll include No. 2 Hutchinson C.C., No. 3 Missouri State Univ., No. 4 University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, No. 5 Western Nebraska, No. 6 Salt Lake City C.C., No. 7 Midland College, No. 9 Northeastern J.C., No. 13 Iowa Western C.C. and No. 14 Frank Phillips College.

Last season Seward County made three appearances in the NJCAA Top 20 poll with rankings at No. 15, No. 17 and No. 20.
