Seward County Community College Head Volleyball Coach Bert Luallen, has announced the volleyball programs 2006 schedule. Luallen and the Lady Saints open their 2006 season this weekend hosting the SCCC Kick-Off Classic in the Green House. Seward County’s schedule has them playing eight home-dates, including the SCCC Invitational, a two-day round-robin tournament in the middle of October (13-14). Seward County is coming off a 24-15 overall record in 2004, where they finished third in the Jayhawk Conference and fourth at the NJCAA Region VI Tournament.

SCCC opens their season this weekend hosting Cisco J.C. (TX), New Mexico Military Institute, Frank Phillips College (TX) and Garden City C.C. for the annual SCCC Kick-Off Classic. Last season Seward County went 4-0 with victories over Coffeyville, Frank Phillips, New Mexico Military and Garden City to win the Classic.

In September the Lady Saints will learn what life on the road consists of competing away from the Green House in four tournaments and one Jayhawk West Conference match. The Lady Saints lone home match in September will come on the 18th, opening their Jayhawk West Conference schedule against Colby C.C. at 6:30 p.m.

The month that will prove who are the contenders in the Conference will be October, as Seward County hosts three conference matches and travels twice to conference opponents. This year’s SCCC Invitational, Oct. 13-14, may be one of the top tournaments in the entire nation this season. This SCCC Invitational will showcase six volleyball programs that were all nationally ranked in the NJCAA Top 20 poll last season, with four of those programs reaching the NJCAA National Tournament. Programs that will be competing this year are: Western Nebraska C.C., Hutchison C.C., University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Barton County C.C., Midland College and Seward County C.C.

The season will reach its end in November, where SCCC will complete their Jayhawk West regular season at Garden City C.C. on Nov. 1. The Region VI Tournament begins Nov. 7 with two play-in-matches that are held at the home of the higher seed, and the completion of the NJCAA Region VI Tournament will be held Nov. 11-12 in Hutchinson. The winner of the NJCAA Region VI Tournament will advance as the representative of the Region VI to the NJCAA National Tournament, Nov. 20-22 in West Plains, Missouri.
