Seward County Community College catcher Tyler Henry, has signed a national letter of intent with Evangel University, in Springfield, Missouri. Henry, a two-year starting catcher for the Saints in 2005 and 2006 will take his skills to Evangel University, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) program who competes in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Henry is the seventh Seward County sophomore to sign at a four-year program after the Saints finished with a 33-27 overall record in 2006.

Henry, a 6’0” sophomore from Denver, Colo. (Denver Christian H.S.), was named Honorable Mention Jayhawk West All-Conference after batting .290 with 11 doubles, and 29 RBI in his sophomore season. Henry hit .329 (25-for-76) in 31 Jayhawk West games with ten of his doubles coming against conference competition. Henry was one of the top catcher in the league last season throwing out 43 % (15-of-35) of would be base stealers against Jayhawk West teams.

In 2005 during Henry’s freshman season, he batted .267 (35-for-131) with six doubles, and was fifth on the Saints with 26 RBI.

Henry will join the Evangel University baseball program in 2006-2007 under new head coach, Lance Quessenberry, who was hired following the 2006 season where the Crusaders had an overall record of 15-33.
