Once again Wednesday night in front of their home crowd, the Seward County Lady Saints showed that they were going to be a force to be reckon with in the Greenhouse this season, following up a three set sweep of Colby in their opener a week ago by rolling the Pratt Lady Beavers in three to improve to 3-1 in Jayhawk West Conference play on the season.

Seward opened the first set in dominating fashion, taking a big early lead before forcing a Pratt timeout after a Thayna Silva kill made it 11-4 Lady Saints. The gals in green remained sharp and didnít let off the gas as the set finished, drilling the Lady Beavers with attacks until finally finishing them off with a kill from Bailey McFerren to win the first 25-9. The second set was a different story early on as Pratt came out with a little bit more fight, taking their first lead of the match at 5-4 before Seward came back to knot things up at 8. With the score tied at 8-8, the Lady Saints picked up three straight points to give themselves an 11-8 lead and they never looked back. Seward outscored Pratt 17-5 to finish the second set and were quickly up 2-0 after a 25-13 win. The Lady Saints changed up the rotation in the third set to get some fresh bodies in the match and it worked to Prattís advantage as the Beavers stuck right with Seward throughout the set. Aubree Young was strong on both sides of the ball in the third, picking up a pair of kills as well as a handful of digs to keep the Lady Saints on track for the sweep. Morgan Riley put Seward on top midway through the set and the Lady Saints got another kill from Young on match point to put it away 25-19 to give them the three set sweep.
The Lady Saints put together their best offensive set of the season in the first, hammering down 11 kills with just 1 error in 19 chances to finish hitting .526. While their production slowed in the second and third, the Lady Saints finished the night at .274, their highest match total in their first four conference tilts of the 2012 season. McFerren finished her big night with 10 kills and 6 blocks for Seward while Young filled up the statsheet with 3 kills, 2 aces, and 10 digs on the evening. Silva finished with 6 kills and just 1 error offensively while putting up her second straight double digit dig effort with 11.
The Lady Saints are now 3-1 in Jayhawk West Conference play, comfortably in second place in the league and improve to 5-8 overall on the season while Pratt drops to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in conference action with the loss. Next up for the Lady Saints is a Wednesday afternoon matinee with Garden City at 4:00 in the Greenhouse followed by a late night affair against Redlands at 8:00 Wednesday.
