Seward County Community College men’s basketball Head Coach, Dave Brown, has announced that five players from the Saints 2005-2006 team have made commitments for the upcoming year. This year’s sophomore signing class will be advancing to four NCAA Division I programs and one NAIA institution. Sophomores, Adam Tanner (Denver University), Jerrell Green (Morgan State University), Keith Spencer (University of Texas-San Antonio), Brandon Cornwell (University of Kansas Wesleyan) and red-shirt freshman, Mark Hall (University of California-Riverside) have all made commitments for next year.

Tanner, a 6’8” center from Melbourne, Australia, has signed to play for the Denver University Pioneers who compete in the Sun Belt Conference (NCAA D-I). Last season DU went 16-15 overall and finished with a Final Four finish at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Tanner was a standout player for the Saints in both of his seasons at SCCC averaging 13.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in his career.

Green, a 5’10” guard will go back home to Baltimore, Maryland, to play at NCAA D-I Morgan State University, who plays in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

Green will be playing for Head Coach, Todd Bozeman, who was hired as MSU head coach on April 27. Bozeman led the University of California to a 63-35 record in four seasons (1992-1996) as head coach. Bozeman was the youngest head coach in NCAA history to make an NCAA “Sweet 16” appearance at the age of 29. Bozeman coached NBA stars Jason Kidd (New Jersey Nets), Lamond Murray (New Jersey Nets), and Shareef Abdur-Rahim (Sacramento Kings) while head coach of the Golden Bears. Bozeman will look to turn around a Bears program that went 4-26 last season and finished in 10th place in the MEAC standings.

Green was the Saints starting point guard in 2005-2006 and averaged 11.4 points and a team-best 4.7 assists per game. Additionally, Green played in 60 games at SCCC in two seasons.

Spencer, a 6’8” power forward from San Diego, California, will travel south to the University of Texas-San Antonio (NCAA D-I) to play in the Southland Conference. Spencer will play for newly hired UTSA Head Coach, Brooks Thompson, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Arizona State University. In 2005-2006, UTSA went 11-17 overall with a 6-10 record in the Southland Conference (8th place). Spencer was a tremendous addition to the Saints this past season where he averaged 10.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in his one season for the Saints.

Cornwell, a 6’2” guard from Wichita, will remain in the sunflower state at the University of Kansas Wesleyan (NAIA). Cornwell will join the Coyotes who finished last season with a 17-13 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Cornwell was a two-year player for the Saints and last season started in 29 games averaging 7.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Hall, a 6’8” forward from San Diego, California, transferred to SCCC in 2004-2005, but did not play that season receiving a red-shirt after transferring from Long Beach State University. Hall will go back to the Big West Conference to play at the University of California-Riverside (NCAA D-I). Hall will be among several newcomers for the Highlander, who last season finished 5-23 overall. Hall played in 28 games for the Saints last season averaging 1.8 points per game.
