With just two opponents in front of them before their much anticipated face off with #2 Hutchinson, the 8th ranked Seward County Lady Saints made sure not to look over either of those two foes, including Wednesday night when they blew away a hot Garden City Lady Broncbusters team 78-59 to win their 10th straight game and keep their Jayhawk West record spotless at 6-0.

A big game for both teams, the 5-0 Lady Saints and the 4-2 Lady Busters both opened the game with some jitters. Neither team got on the board in the first 3 minutes of the contest and Garden City broke through first with a pair of free throws to take the early 2-0 lead. Seward then answered back on a finish inside from Mariah Lee and Ricquia Jones got a home town bounce on a three pointer in the Lady Saints next trip down the court to take a 5-2 advantage. Garden City didnít get their first field goal to drop until 4:57 into the game but their defense kept them in the game and midway through the half the game was tied at 10. The teams were tied at 12 at the media timeout before the Lady Saints caught fire and went on a 10-0 run in just 2:42 span thanks to three pointers from Kelsey Blair and Mattie Yanke as well as points in the paint from Lee and Jones to make it 22-12 Seward with 7:14 remaining in the half. The Lady Saints then looked to have gotten comfortable with the double digit lead and went 4 minutes without a field goal, allowing Garden City to get within three at 23-20 before Ashlynn Knoll buried a three pointer to put them back up by 6 with 3:11 to go. Then, both teams got hot on their offensive sides of the floor and were a combined 8 for 8 from the field to make it a 35-27 game in favor of Seward and a basket with under 10 seconds remaining in the half by Anete Kirsteine put the Lady Saints back ahead by 8 as the teams went to the locker room with the score 37-29 Seward.
Garden City quickly cut the Lady Saints lead to just 5 as the second half began but a pair of three pointers from Kirsteine and Lee pushed their lead back to double digits at 45-34. That is when the gals in green opened the game up. A runner from Kirsteine sparked a burst for Seward that turned it quickly from an 11 point game to 17 point game as Kayla Thomas penetrated and scored to make it 54-37 Lady Saints with 13:37 remaining in the game. The push was all it took for the Lady Saints and they held a double digit lead every Garden City possession for the remainder of the half. They tacked onto their lead late and saw their advantage balloon to as many as 21 before closing it out 78-59. Seward shot an even 50% in the second half while holding Garden City to just 31% from the floor.
The Lady Saints took nearly every statistical category on the night as they finished the game shooting 48% from the floor and 46% from the three point line and outrebounded the Lady Busters 33-32. Kirsteine led the way for Seward, scoring a career high 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting and 4 of 6 from downtown and also had a team high 7 rebounds in the win. Lee finished with 15 points on 7 of 11 shooting and Knoll reached double digits with 12. Jones had 7 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals in the game for Seward while Thomas finished with 8 and Blair with 6 off the Lady Saints bench.
Seward improves to 17-2 overall and 6-0 in Jayhawk West play and captures their 10th straight win. Next up for Seward is the long trip to El Dorado and the Power Plant on Saturday where the Lady Saints will take on a struggling but capable Butler Lady Grizzlies team that sits at 2-4 in conference play.
