The Seward County Community College softball team dropped a Jayhawk West Conference and District doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon to Colby Community College, 7-6 and 10-3 at Lady Saints Softball Field on the campus of Seward County C.C. Seward committed nine errors in the while also recording 20 base hits in their doubleheader against the Lady Trojans (34-14, 8-0 Jayhawk West, 9-1 District). Seward County falls to 23-19 overall, 7-3 in the Jayhawk West (fifth place) and 1-5 in District standings (fifth place).

In game-one, the Lady Saints allowed Colby two runs in the first inning but came back in the home half scoring two runs on an RBI triple by Meisha Patterson, and an RBI single by Allison Bellar. Colby then scratched out two runs in the second inning and three runs in the third to take a 7-3 lead.

Seward County didnít go down without a fight scoring three runs in the sixth frame, highlighted by RBI doubles from Kati Jo Gabaldon and Sarah Venegas. The rally came up short as Seward County left two runners stranded in the bottom of the seventh inning as Colby took game-one 7-6.

Seward County sophomore second baseman, Stephanie Jaime led the way going 2-for-4. Sophomore, Becky Holland earned the loss on the mound pitching 3.1 innings allowing 12 hits, seven runs (four earned) and one walk.

In game-two, the Lady Trojans controlled the tempo scoring runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings while Seward was able to score three runs late in the game after Colby had already posted a 7-0 lead.

Colbyís offensive onslaught continued as they recorded 12 base hits in the nightcap, giving them 25 total hits for the afternoon. Seward County freshman, Stephanie McCarthy was the losing pitcher for the Lady Saints pitching a complete game while yielding 10 runs (six earned runs), two walks and striking out four Colby batters.

The Lady Saints did have 20 batters reach base totaling 12 base hits, but left 11 runners stranded on base. Seward was led offensively by Patterson (3-for-4), Amanda McCue (2-for-4, double, triple), Bellar (2-for-4) and Gabaldon (2-for-4).

Seward will continue Jayhawk West and District competition on Thursday, April 13, hosting Barton County Community College for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Lady Saints Softball Field.
