Eleven Seward County sophomores played their final regular season home game Wednesday afternoon at Brent Gould Field against Clarendon. The Saints sophs would leave with a smile on their faces as Jose Gonzales earned the win on the mound and Tyler Hill starred at the plate with 5 RBIís as Seward downed the Bulldogs 8-6 to move to 34-17 overall on the 2011 campaign.

Clarendon got on the board first with a run in the top half of the 1st inning but the Saints answered back with a big 1st inning of their own. Steven Polito walked to lead off the game and Jordan Dallalio followed him with a walk of his own to put two on and no out in the inning. JT Bean drove home Polito with a single and after a walk to Jon Mestas to load the bases, Hill ripped a single to left to score a pair and put the Saints on top 3-1 after 1. The Bulldogs evened things up in the 2nd inning as they scored a pair of unearned runs after a Seward error to make it a 3-3 game. Neither team scored in their next at bats and the Saints would go ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the 3rd as Hill drilled a one out triple to right to score Bean who reached on an error earlier in the inning and Hill scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from Ben Wainwright to put Seward up by two. Hill added to his RBI total in the 4th inning as he singled home Polito with two outs to make it 6-3 Seward and the Saints picked up another run in the 6th inning as Dillon Bryant drove home Carlos Dorado to put the Saints on top 7-3 after 6 innings of play. In the 7th Clarendon took advantage of a two out error by Seward to end up scoring three runs to climb back to within one at 7-6 but the Saints added an insurance run in the 8th as Hill picked up his fourth RBI hit of the game, driving home Eddie Williams to make it an 8-6 game going into the 9th. In the 9th the Saints called on their closer Willy Gustin who after working into some trouble, battled out of the jam with a strikeout and a pop out to secure the save and give the Saints the 8-6 win. Hill finished the game 4 for 5 with a career high 5 RBIís in the win while eight other Saints would also get a hit in the contest. On the mound Gonzalez earned the win with a scoreless 3rd inning, joining Ethan Adams, Ty Thomas, Paul Pulley, Hill, and Gustin who all also blanked the Bulldogs in an inning of work.
The win put the Saints at 34-17 overall on the season and gave them a modest 6 game win streak after beating Clarendon last Wednesday before sweeping Hutchinson to move the streak to 5 over the weekend.
