With the conference already wrapped up after a win Wednesday night, the #21 Seward County Saints came out loose as could be in their Saturday night matchup with the Butler Grizzlies in the Power Plant in El Dorado. Seward would lead 47-24 at the half before cruising to the finish line with an 82-62 win to win the Jayhawk West by a full two games.

Seward would own every aspect of the first half of the game. Butler would stay close early on in the first half as the Saints led by just 6 at 18-12 but the high flying Saints would turn on the jets through the middle part of the half to go ahead 36-20 with 7 minutes left in the half. They would not let up as they continued to scorch the nets with a barrage of three point baskets as well as a coordinated attack on the inside and would take a 47-24 lead into the locker rooms at half. The Saints would shoot 54% overall in the period while holding Butler to just 31% shooting and 8 field goals. Seward knocked down 5 of 10 from three point land and would miss on just 1 of 13 free throw attempts to carry the 23 point advantage into the break.
The Saints would open the second half the same way that they ended the first, in complete control of the game as they took their largest lead of the game at 55-29 with 16:30 remaining. The Saints would continue to push and would get the highlight reel dunk of the year from Daveon Boardingham halfway through the period as the big fella led a break with he and Jeremy Jones before jumping over a Butler defender on the break on his way to a one handed flush to end any hope of a Grizzly upset on the night. Seward would begin to empty their bench and give some of their stars a rest a well deserved rest down the stretch but Butler would not be able to get much closer as the Saints would cruise to their second 20+ point win of the season over the defending conference champs with an 82-62 victory to finish far atop the Jayhawk West standings at 12-4.
Seward would outshoot Butler in every phase of the game as they finished 25 for 49 from the field and 8 of 19 from the three point line while the Grizzlies were just 20 of 57 and 5 of 27. The Saints also continued their positive trend of getting to the free throw line and outscoring their opponents from the charity stripe as they managed 33 foul shots, making 24 of them, good for 73% in the contest. Jones would lead the Saints with 21 on the night and would finish as the Jayhawk West’s leading scorer in conference action at just under 20 a game. Marky Nolen and Phil Hawkins would each score 13 in the win and Marquez Patterson would add 11. Boardingham had a matching 8 points and 8 rebounds including the dunk that will be talked about by all those in attendance for a while.
The Saints finish the regular season 24-6 and end their conference season at 12-4, adding an exclamation to their conference title.
