The Seward County Community College menís tennis team won both of their matches this week against Hutchinson Community College and Kansas Newman University. The Saints won 9-0 at Hutchinson on Tuesday and then defeated Kansas Newman 6-3 on Thursday, as both matches were played on the road for SCCC. Seward County improves to 2-3 this season with a 21-20 match record against their opponents.

The Saints had no trouble with Hutchinson as every Saints player swept their opponent in straight sets giving SCCC their opening Jayhawk West Conference match victory.

Saints No. 1 singles players, Thiago Lins, defeated Spencer Polzak 6-0 and 6-0, No. 2 singles player, Alejandro Martinez, defeated Kyle Martin 6-0 and 6-0 and No. 3 singles player, Rogerio Yamamoto knocked off Mark Bartlett, 6-0 and 6-0.

In three doubles matches, SCCC defeated Hutchinson by a combined score of 24-3.

The Saints then defeated Kansas Newman, who previously this season took second-place at the College of Santa Fe Tournament that the Saints also competed in.

Against Newman, the Saints were led by Yamamoto and freshman, Adam Hambleton, who each won their singles match and came together to win in the No. 3 doubles match against Joe Oaks and David Martin of Newman.

Martinez and Bruno Falcao each won in singles and Falcao and Josh Rollins defeated Zach Loomis and Ryan McKeegan in No. 2 doubles.

Martinez and Yamamoto each own the Saints top overall mark this season with 4-1 overall record in singles competition.

The Saints next match will be on the road at Seminole State College, in Seminole, Okla. Thursday, March 30. The Saints and Trojans will square off at 3:00 p.m.
