The Seward County Community College softball team swept their third Jayhawk West Conference doubleheader yesterday against Dodge City Community College. Seward County defeated Dodge City 7-3 and 7-3 in a pair of conference games at Lady Saints Softball Field in Liberal. SCCC has now won 11 of their last 12 games including a perfect 6-0 record in the Jayhawk West Conference. Dodge City is now 6-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The Lady Saints (14-6 overall) handed the ball to their ace pitcher, Becky Holland, in game one. Holland won her fifth straight game pitching a complete game scattering nine hits and allowing three earned runs. Holland struck out four batters in the SCCC victory.

Seward County received a big day from third baseman, Meisha Patterson, going 4-for-4 with a game-high three RBI and a double. Kati Jo Gabaldon hit her fourth home run of the season in the third inning (solo home run) and scored three runs.

Lynsey Deaton (2-for-2) and Sarah Venegas (2-for-4) were also leading hitters for SCCC.

In game two, Dodge City scored a run in the first, but Seward County battled back scoring two runs in the second inning on RBIís by Allison Bellar (double) and Deaton (sacrifice fly). In the fourth inning, Deaton hit an RBI double to score Bellar who also doubled in the inning.

The Lady Saints put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning when they recorded five base hits including four extra-base hits. Patterson led off the fifth inning with a double and then scored on Bellarís third double of the game. Deaton hit a double to score Bellar, and then lead-off hitter, Stephanie Jaime, scored Deaton with another RBI double. Venegas capped off the fifth inning with an RBI single to score Jaime.

Bellar finished game two going 3-for-3 with two RBI and three doubles. Deaton had the best outing of her freshman season going 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles. Deaton finished the day going 4-for-4 at the plate.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher, Sarah Wittwer, finished her freshman season (2005) with an 11-1 record against Jayhawk West opponents. Yesterday, Wittwer notched her fifth straight victory this season giving her a 3-0 record against Jayhawk West teams in her sophomore campaign. Wittwer allowed seven hits, three earned runs and three walks in her complete game effort.

The Lady Saints will travel to Pratt Community College this weekend to compete in the Pratt Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, March 11-12. Lady Saints opponents and game times for this weekend have not yet been announced.

SCCC will continue Jayhawk West competition next Tuesday, March 14 at Colby Community College, with the first-pitch being scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
