After coming up just short for the second straight season in the Region VI Championship game, four Seward County Saint sophomores have been named to the NJCAA All-Region VI team. Infielders Kelby Tomlinson, Quay Grant, and Josh Dawson as well as outfielder Luke Campbell have received hardware after leading their squad to the Jayhawk West Conference Championship and a second place finish in the Region VI Tournament.
Sewardís left side of the infield in Kelby Tomlinson and Quay Grant were both named 1st Team All-Region after a season in which they created havoc at the top of the lineup for opposing pitchers. Tomlinson was the Saints hottest hitter in the second half of the season, raising his batting average nearly 80 points to .352 by seasonís end while notching 10 multi hit games in Sewardís final 14 contests, including a streak against Clarendon, Lamar and Colby in which he went 20-29 (.690), notching 2 or more hits in 7 straight games. Quay Grant was named the top 3rd baseman in Region VI this season after hitting .365 with 13 doubles and 7 home runs during the 2010 campaign. Grant was rock solid in the two hole for Seward this season, finishing in the top 3 on the team in hits, runs, at bats, doubles, triples, RBIís, and stolen bases.
The Saints top two hitters this year, Josh Dawson and Luke Campbell received 2nd Team All-Region honors in their final year at Seward. Campbell hit .378 for Seward this season, playing in all 63 games while leading the team in OPS at 1.015 with 16 doubles, 9 home runs, and 65 runs driven in. Dawson was as steady as they come this season for the Saints at 1st base, as his batting average didnít drop below the .333 mark at any point past the Saints 5th game of the season. He finished the season with a team high 22 doubles while finishing second on the team to Campbell in batting average at .370 and RBIís with 58.
