The Seward County Saints finished day one of the NJCAA National Tennis Tournament in Plano, Texas in 2nd place, trailing the leader, Temple College, by just two points. Laercio Lobo started off the winning for Seward, taking care of Kyle Watson of Lewis & Clark 6-0, 6-2 and Carlos Souza beat Sam Murphy of Kaskaskia College 6-2, 6-1 to move onto the round of 16. Seward’s #4 and #5 players Fernando Soni and Christian Romanzini won their singles matches 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-3 respectively over Lorenzo Pineda of New Mexico Military and Matt Lancaster of Pima CC. Nathan Nelmes lost a tough first round match with Romain Viellard of ABAC in a 0-6, 6-1, 7-5 decision while Eduardo Munoz lost 6-3, 6-2 to Justin Romero of New Mexico Military. In doubles play the Saints were perfect on day one as Lobo and Nelmes as well as Soni and Souza won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 over Moraine Valley and Hinds CC and Munoz and Romanzini won 7-5, 6-1 over Gadsden State to move to the round of 16.
