The Seward County Community College athletic department currently has six of their seven sports all in their respective regular seasons. The menís and womenís basketball teams are approaching their Region VI playoffs, the Saints baseball team is underway in their non-conference schedule, Seward Countyís softball program will play their first Jayhawk West Conference game on Thursday and the Saints and Lady Saints tennis teams have already participated in their first official tournament.

The Lady Saints basketball team has clinched fourth-place in the Jayhawk West Conference, which guarantees them a First Round Region VI Playoff game at the Green House. Head Coach Toby Wynnís team is currently 23-5 overall and 9-5 in the Jayhawk West Conference.

Sophomore shooting guard, Brio Rode has shined during the month of February. Rode scored a career-high 32 points against Barton County (Feb. 1) and was named NJCAA Player of the Week (Feb. 8) for her performance.

The Saints basketball team recorded a 4-3 record during the month of February. Saints Head Coach, Dave Brown, also notched his 225th career head coaching victory (Feb. 1) at Seward County. Brown is now the all-time wins leader in SCCC menís basketball history.

The Saints are finishing up their remaining Jayhawk West Conference games. The Saints are currently tied for seventh place in the Region VI Jayhawk West standings and will need a victory at home against Hutchinson if they have any chance of hosting a first round Region VI Playoff game.

The Seward County Saints baseball program received their second national ranking of the season when they earned a No. 18 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) pre-season ranking on Feb. 10. Earlier this year the Saints were ranked No. 18 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Seward County has started the season 6-2 overall with a four-game sweep over Northeastern Colorado and one win apiece from Clarendon College and Lamar Community College.

SCCC is led offensively by Alex Collura who is batting .571 (4-for-7) and Chris Capps (.533, 8-for-15). Sophomore left-handed pitcher, Michael Jarman, is leading the pitching staff with a 2-0 record and a 3.86 earned run average (ERA).

The Lady Saints softball team is currently 7-5 overall and have swept their last two doubleheaders against Frank Phillips College and McCook Community College. SCCC started the season with a 3-5 record with victories over Lamar State College and two victories over Clarendon College.

Lady Saint freshman, Sarah Venegas is leading the team with a .517 (15-for-29) batting average and three home runs. Sophomore right-handed pitcher, Becky Holland, is 3-2 on the mound with a 2.80 ERA.

The No. 7 Saints tennis team started their season 0-3 at the College of Santa Fe Tournament (Feb. 17-19). The Saints competed against all four-year institutions and had several players earn match victories on the weekend.

The No. 15 Lady Saints tennis team left the College of Santa Fe Tourney with a 2-1 record with victories over Newman University (9-0) and University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (5-4).
