The Seward County Community College womenís tennis team competed in the International Tennis Association (ITA) Small School Regional Tennis Tournament in Wichita, Kan., on Sept. 29-30. The competition placed all Regional singles players and Regional doubles partners into one bracket respectively, with the singles winner and doubles pair who won the tournament advancing to the ITA Small School National Tournament. Seward County did not have a regional champion this fall season, but several SCCC players recorded multiple wins in the two-day regional tournament in Wichita.

Freshman No. 5 singles player, Holly Davis from Wellington, Texas, won her first three matches of the regional competition against Lewis and Clark, Johnson County Community College and Cowley College. Davis didnít lose a single set in her first three victories before dropping her fourth match 0-6 and 0-6 to another member from Cowley Collegeís womenís tennis team.

Lady Saints No.1 singles player, Amina Abdullah, advanced to the third round of championship competition after knocking off Lewis & Clark and Barton County singles players by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0 and 6-1. Abdullah was defeated in her third singles tournament match against Cowley College, 3-6, 3-6.

Sophomore No. 2 singles player, Uthala Abdullah, also picked up two wins at the regional tournament with single match victories over Rend Lake C.C. (6-0, 6-0) and Johnson County (6-3, 6-1). Uthala Abdullah was stopped short of a regional championship by Barton County, 4-6 and 4-6.

Seward County No. 6 singles player, Erica Herrera, was successful in the back draw of the tournament bracket, after dropping her first match to Cowley College. Herrera defeated Independence and Rend Lake in the consolation bracket before losing her final match to drop her out of consolation bracket competition.

Seward County improved to 54-42 overall this season, with a 43-31 singles record and an even 11-11 doubles record.
