The Seward County Community College menís tennis team competed in the two-day International Tennis Association (ITA) Small School Regional Tennis Tournament on Sept. 29-30 in Wichita, Kan. The tournament was designed to advance one winner from singles competition among all the schools participating and for one doubles pair to advance from bracket competition to the ITA Small School National Tennis Tournament. The Saints completed the tournament with an 11-16 overall record, including a 9-12 record among singles players.

The Saints were led by freshman No. 2 singles player, Roberto Martinez. After dropping his opening match, Martinez rebounded with three consecutive victories over teammate, Adam Hambleton, Independence and Barton County. Martinez improves his team-best overall singles record to 12-2 overall this fall.

Martinez was the only Saints singles player to collect multiple victories at the regional tournament. Other Saints singles players to record a win were Ruben Mora (1-1), Luis Cabizuca (1-1), Rogerio Yamamoto (1-1), Bruno Falcao (1-1) and Andy Jeffery (1-1).

In doubles competition, the Saints picked up two wins with No. 1 doubles pair, Mora/Cabizuca defeating Cowley College and dropping their final match to Barton County, and Yamamoto/Falcao defeating Johnson County before falling to another Johnson County duo in the regional tournament second round of doubles.

The Saints record currently stands at 78-43 overall, with a 62-27 record in singles play and a 12-16 doubles record this season.
