The Seward County Community College volleyball team captured their second consecutive Jayhawk West Conference match on Wednesday night hosting Dodge City Community College (2-22, 0-5). The Lady Saints dominated Dodge City defeating them 30-15, 30-19 and 30-19. Seward County (15-15, 2-1 Jayhawk West)) played a solid all-around match with a convincing three-game match victory over the Lady Conquistadors.

Last night, Seward County made several changes in their offensive and defensive rotations. The most notable change saw freshman, Jennifer Noel, playing at the outside hitter’s position. Noel looked impressive in her first match at the new position finishing the match with 15 kills, two service aces and an impressive .583 hitting percentage (1 error- 24 attempts). Filling in for Noel at the middle hitter’s position last night was freshman, Jenny Schwier, who also recorded two aces.

Seward County registered a .407 hitting percentage, which is their highest hitting percentage in any match this season. The Lady Saints played arguably their most complete match of their 30 match season with only eight hitting errors, two receiving errors and zero blocking errors.

Sophomore outside hitter, Janete Ferreira, led SCCC with 20 kills (.415 hitting percentage) and completed a double/double with 11 defensive digs. Sophomore right side hitter, Juliana Nascimento, led Seward County with a .619 hitting percentage (14 kills- 1 error- 21 attempts).

Freshman libero, Katy Troutman, continues her march towards becoming the Lady Saints all-time leader in single-season digs. Last night, Troutman once again led the way defensively with 16 digs. Troutman raises her season total to 490, just 100 digs shy of breaking the all-time single-season record.

Also chipping in a solid match was freshman setter, Alex Droogsma, who tallied a team-best 48 assists (16 assists/game).

Seward County will travel to Borger, Texas, on Friday October 6, to take on No. 9 Frank Phillips College (24-5) at 6:00 p.m. The Lady Saints will play perhaps the toughest schedule in the nation during the next two weeks as the play their next eight matches against seven NJCAA Top 20 ranked teams. The Lady Saints next eight matches are against teams with a combined overall record of 171-34 (.834 winning %) this season.
